Jeremy Irons Cast As Villain In Highlander Reboot

Oscar, Emmy, and Tony Award-winning actor Jeremy Irons has joined the cast of Amazon MGM’s "Highlander" remake. He joins a high-profile ensemble led by Henry Cavill that also includes Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Max Zhang, and Drew McIntyre.

The action-fantasy film, directed by Chad Stahelski, is slated for a theatrical release. Production, initially planned for late 2025, has been pushed to early 2026 after Cavill sustained an injury during pre-production.

The story follows Connor MacLeod (Cavill), a Scottish Highlander who learns he is an immortal warrior. Mentored by fellow immortal Ramirez (Crowe), MacLeod must battle other immortals through the ages. The cast features Bautista as the primary villain, The Kurgen; Gillan as MacLeod’s mortal wife; Abela as his modern-day love interest; and Hounsou as an immortal warrior from Africa.

Irons will portray the film's other antagonist, the leader of a secret order known as "The Watchers," who monitor the immortals and view them as a threat to humanity.

The script was written by Michael Finch, with Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis, and Louise Rosner producing. Irons is a veteran actor known for roles in HBO's "Watchmen," the DC film universe as Alfred Pennyworth, and is currently filming "The Beekeeper 2" for Amazon.
