In a move that surprised some fans, DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn has shed light on why his hit film Superman received a digital release just over a month after its theatrical debut.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Gunn revealed that the decision was driven by the upcoming release of Peacemaker Season 2. "We wanted to make sure as many people as possible were able to watch Superman before Peacemaker Season 2 airs on August 21st," Gunn explained. He noted that the second season of the show was originally planned for a September release but was moved up due to a change in the schedule.
The interconnectedness of the DC Universe played a key role in this decision. As Gunn highlighted, the events of the Superman movie directly set up the new season of Peacemaker, and characters from the film will appear in the show. He also teased that Peacemaker Season 2 will lay the groundwork for the future of the DCU.
